🧡 Friday Fire: Sara — From Running Setback to Strength

Sara had always relied on running as her main form of exercise.

It was her fitness, stress relief, and personal time.

But a persistent knee injury and the physical changes brought on by menopause made even short runs painful and discouraging.

Her fitness declined, and she began to lose confidence in her body and abilities.

“As a runner I’d never thought I needed to do any other type of exercise, until a niggling knee injury almost stopped me running. My fitness took a nose dive and coupled with the menopause, exercising became harder and harder to a point where I was barely doing anything.”

She knew she needed to take action but wasn’t sure what would work.

She wanted guidance, structure, and a supportive environment to regain her strength.

Stepping Out of Her Comfort Zone

Sara had heard about GB1fitness through social media and from fellow runners.

Outdoor circuit training was something she hadn’t considered, and the thought of training through winter felt intimidating.

Still, in August 2023 she decided to try a class.

“I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I knew I needed something to get me moving and keep me accountable. Two years later I’m loving the classes — they’re fun, sociable, and everyone is so encouraging and friendly. It feels like exercising with friends — not just a class.”

She quickly realised that GB1 was different from a gym or solo workouts.

The mix of bodyweight exercises, strength training, and cardio challenged her body in new ways, while the friendly and encouraging community made every session motivating and fun.

Building Strength and Confidence

Through consistent attendance, Sara began to see real progress.

She felt stronger, her endurance improved, and she regained confidence in her abilities.

The encouragement from Graeme and fellow members kept her consistent, even on days when she didn’t feel like showing up.

“It’s so much easier to exercise when you’re exercising with friends. I can see the progress I’ve made, my physical and emotional wellbeing has improved, I’m stronger, fitter, and enjoying running again.”

This balance of challenge and support helped her overcome both physical and mental barriers, and her overall wellbeing improved alongside her fitness.

Enjoying Running Again

Now, Sara is running pain-free, stronger than before, and approaching her training with confidence.

She enjoys the variety of exercises, the social aspect of the classes, and the sense of accomplishment she gains from each session.

GB1 helped her realise that running alone doesn’t have to be the only path to fitness — strength and cross-training are equally valuable.

“I feel like I’ve regained control over my fitness and my health. GB1 has helped me build strength I didn’t know I needed, and I’m enjoying running again more than ever.”
