Who is GB1?

Meet Graeme – Founder of GB1fitness
I’m Graeme aka GB1, the face behind GB1fitness. A family man who's recently turned 50 and, after spending 30 years in retail, 25 of those as a branch manager, I knew it was time for a change.
The COVID-19 pandemic gave me the space to reflect, and I realised I didn’t want to spend another 25 years in the same industry.
But the question was, what did I want to do?
After a brief detour into bookkeeping, I decided to follow my true passion: fitness.
I retrained as a personal trainer, and in Spring 2021, GB1fitness was born.

From Zero to a Thriving Community
Starting with zero members and a simple two classes a week, I faced three weeks of running classes with zero bookings. It was a tough start, but then came the first booking, followed by another,
momentum started to build.
Fast forward to today, GB1fitness has grown to over 60 members, running seven outdoor group classes per week, alongside my one-to-one personal training sessions.

The GB1fitness Philosophy

At GB1fitness, we focus on real, sustainable progress. Whether in group sessions or personal training, my mission is to help people build strength, confidence, and lasting fitness habits in a supportive and fun environment.

My Personal Fitness Journey
I’m an avid runner, but I fully understand that things naturally slow down with age. My 5K PB of 18:20 may be out of reach now, but after 15 years of running a sub-20 5K annually, my goal is to keep that streak alive while pushing my WAVA age grading into the 70s and beyond. I also have a half marathon PB of 1:26, and while times may change, the love for running remains.
I also prioritise strength training to safeguard my future health, ensuring that I stay strong and capable as I get older. Looking after my body today means a better quality of life tomorrow.

Real Struggles, Real Life
I may be a fitness trainer, a personal trainer, and a dedicated runner, but I’m also human. Just like everyone else, I have my own battles. During my time in retail, I struggled with stress and anxiety, to the point where I was signed off work by a doctor for a month.
These days, my biggest personal challenge is nutrition and weight management – a constant mental battle that I don’t always win. The reality is that fitness isn’t about being perfect; it’s about learning, adapting, and doing your best every day.

GB1fitness is more than just a workout – it’s a community. I’ve seen first-hand how a supportive group can keep people motivated, push them to show up, and help them achieve results they never thought possible. Fitness isn’t about being perfect – it’s about turning up, doing your best, and enjoying the process.
