Choosing Something Different

Fiona didn’t come to GB1fitness because running wasn’t working.

She came because she knew it wasn’t enough on its own anymore.

Like many runners, she kept hearing the same message.

Strength matters.

Especially as the years roll on.

“I talked a lot about trying something different other than running to keep fit. You hear so much about strengthening and maintaining muscle mass as you get older, so I thought I’d give it a try.”

That decision wasn’t about giving something up.

It was about adding something that would support her long term.

Why the Gym Wasn’t the Answer

Traditional gyms were never the solution Fiona was looking for.

Motivation fades quickly when you’re on your own, unsure, or disconnected.

“I’m not good at going to the gym. I need support, camaraderie and motivation from others.”

That’s where GB1fitness stood out.

Group training, shared effort, and an environment where encouragement is built in rather than optional.

One Nudge, One Year, 100 Classes

Like many Friday Fire stories, Fiona’s journey started with encouragement from others.

“I was persuaded to try it by Andy B and Chris I, and a year on I’m still going.”

Not only still going, but fully committed.

“I’m wearing the T-shirt. I’ve got four at least. And a bobble hat!”

Hitting 100 classes isn’t about willpower alone.

It’s about systems that make consistency easier and training something you identify with.

Commitment That Sticks

Outdoor training quickly became part of Fiona’s routine, even when conditions weren’t exactly inviting.

“I like being outside and doing it to music, even in the cold.”

Booking sessions plays a bigger role than people realise.

“Having to book makes me plan and commit. I even turn up when I haven’t officially booked.”

That structure removes decision fatigue.

The choice is made early.

Turning up becomes automatic.

Getting Stronger in a New Way

The results have followed the consistency.

“I do feel fitter and stronger, and I’ve managed to up the level of weights, so I must be getting better in a different way than just running.”

Strength training hasn’t replaced Fiona’s fitness.

It’s expanded it.

She’s developing capacity, resilience, and strength that carries across everything else she does.

The variety keeps sessions engaging too.

“I didn’t know there were so many ways to use a ball and weights to tone and strengthen, so it’s good that each session is different.”

No boredom.

No autopilot.

Just steady progression.

Community Makes the Difference

As always, the people matter.

“Such lovely people, and a real mix. There’s banter from us and from you, and we all help each other.”

That mix of support, humour, and shared effort is what keeps people coming back long after motivation alone would have faded.

Fiona’s 100 classes aren’t an accident.

They’re the result of choosing variety over monotony, community over isolation, and consistency over intensity.

That’s Friday Fire.

And Fiona’s only getting started.
